Teen Cancer America recently hosted their first inaugural Polo To Empower – Rock ‘n’ Polo event at the Will Rogers State Park in the Pacific Palisades.
The day was celebrated by many attendees and charity supporters, including speeches from TCA co-founder Rebecca Rothstein, TCA Board Member Becky Mancuso-Winding, and TCA Advocate/film maker, Hernan Barangan.
Justin Baldoni, a director, community philanthropist, and actor from the hit TV show “Jane The Virgin,” attended to rally support for the charity.
“We are so privileged to be out here today, but I want to bring it back to why were actually here. It’s not about social media, it’s not about networking, it’s not about just showing up to do your friend a favor. This organization [TCA] actually provides a real service to young people who are in need,” said Baldoni. “The work that this organization does is vital to the well-being of these young people who are fighting every day.”
There were also some amazing musical performances from Stevie Redstone, and TCA Young Advocate and survivor, Sierra Washburne, who was accompanied by TCA Play It Back Program Manager Kenli Mattus and South African recording artist Shaun Jacob.
Before the polo game, the audience was treated to a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by New Zealand recording artist NOURI.
There were also many more event ambassadors, and organizers that were present including singer/songwriter and TCA Celebrity Ambassador Harry Hudson, TV personality Marissa Hermer, actress Neetu Chandra, Director of Hyre Car, Grace Mellis; Felice Densa; and polo event organizers, Michelle Meyer and Michelle Aland.
Between the polo matches, attendees wandered onto the playing field to participate in the old-time tradition of divot stomping. Many thanks to our partners from First Citizens Bank for sponsoring the divot stomp and Wine Insiders for providing the sparkling wine.
At the end of the polo match, Team Illuminate defeated D.A. Davidson 7 goals to 6. In the second polo match, Team Hyre Car defeated LMID by one goal with a score of 7 goals to 6.
Thank you to all attendees, polo players, sponsors, and supporters of of our 2019 Rock ‘n’ Polo sponsors!
