The Who Performs for Teen Cancer America in ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ Telethon
Teen Cancer America (TCA) will take a prominent role in the fundraising telecast ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ on Friday. The one hour special, featuring a host of film, music and TV celebrities, airs Friday, Sept 5 at 8/7 central across most major TV networks.
The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will perform from London, introduced by TCA supporter and Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl.
Daltrey and Townshend founded Teen Cancer America in 2012, and Daltrey is a longtime patron of the U.K. charity Teenage Cancer Trust. TCA supports the creation of programs and facilities that focus on the special needs of teens and young adults battling the disease.
“TCA has recognized that teens and young adults get cancer too and there were no places in hospitals where this age group can mix with each other,” said Daltrey. ”If children have nurseries with teddy bears, and adults are provided for then it’s surely right that this age group have suitably equipped treatment.”
The UCLA Medical Center became the first American institution to cater specifically to teens when its Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Center opened, in 2012. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s new Cancer Center, to open in fall 2015, will house a TCA outpatient facility. There are currently an additional 25 hospitals nationwide interested in creating TCA units or programs.

At Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp they all get to pursue their passion – and meet, and play with the artists who became the soundtrack of their lives. It has been a fantastic experience for all of us who have been able to witness it for the past sixteen years.
