Teen Cancer America (TCA) is officially proud to announce their partnership with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and First Citizens Bank (FCB), with avid support from Be Loud! Sophie Foundation. The excitement could be felt as UNC’s key players in the Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) Oncology program gathered in one room to share their long-awaited good news. With the funding of TCA, FCB and the vision of Be Loud! Sophie Foundation, UNC has been able to declare themselves as a leader in creating a comprehensive AYA program.
The day started with encouraging words from the Director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Shelton Earp, along with AYA Medical Director Dr. Andrew Smitherman and AYA Program Director Lauren Lux. The three shared the wonderful accomplishments this program has made thus far and their vision and mission to see it grow.
Executive Director of Teen Cancer America Simon Davies and FCB Chief Strategy Officer Jeff Ward acknowledged the uniqueness of this collaboration and look forward to seeing the positive impact it makes for the young people with cancer in North Carolina. Young adult cancer survivor Jackie shared her story and reminded us all,
“despite the many successes made, challenges that young people face with regard to their care still remain today.”
Together, we have the opportunity to influence change and make sure that all adolescents and young adults have access to the specialized care that they deserve.
