I’m Sarah. As of right now, I’m a middle school science teacher from Flowery Branch, GA. I’m a huge classic rock fan as well as a drummer and guitarist. I was diagnosed with a Stage 1 Ganglioglioma in the brain at age 15. Throughout the course of my treatment, I saw many pediatric doctors and stayed in a pediatric hospital, but I was never treated with people my own age. The experience was incredibly isolating and I felt like nobody really understood what I was going through.

When I discovered the vision that Teen Cancer America sought after my own treatment, I knew I had to get involved. I have had the good fortune of watching TCA grow from a mere seed of an idea to a well-developed and growing “tree” of hospitals and a community around the country. For me, being involved with TCA means ensuring that no teen or young adult with cancer has to endure the alienation that I and so many other AYA cancer patients have faced. By doing this, we create better outcomes for patients emotionally, mentally, and often in turn, physiologically.
