Since healthcare organizations commonly design their care for either children or adults, the unique needs of teens and young adults are often not met. Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford Health Care have created the Stanford Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer (SAYAC) Program to provide a holistic approach for adolescents and young adults ages 15-29 with all types of cancer to help meet these needs.

The SAYAC Cancer Program is a part of the Bass Center and NCI-designated Stanford Cancer Institute, which provides patients access to cutting-edge clinical trials and research being conducted at Stanford. Through effective care coordination and innovative treatments, our patients experience improved physical, mental and emotional well-being.

“For a lot of people, Superman has always been America’s hero. He stands for what we believe is the best within us: limitless strength tempered by compassion, that can bear adversity and emerge stronger on the other side. He stands for what we all feel we would like to be able to stand for, when standing is the hardest.” I’m thankful to have a hero of my own, Pam Simon, program director of Stanford’s AYA program. Looking back on treatment I don’t know how I would have done it without the support of SAYAC. The continuous support through my entire treatment was heaven sent! Words can’t explain how thankful I am for this program.”
