What Happens After a TCA Grant is Awarded?

When a cancer treatment site receives a Teen Cancer America AYA Program Development Grant, the support continues. Each site is paired with a member of TCA’s Mission Team who meets regularly typically monthly with the AYA program staff to offer guidance and collaboration on the program as it grows.

These ongoing consultations provide practical, hands-on support, including:

• Assessing progress and identifying next steps in building the AYA program
• Brainstorming approaches to delivering AYA-focused care and supportive services
• Engaging clinicians, administrators, and departments across the cancer center
• Developing effective care services and data tracking systems
• Planning communication and outreach to ensure the program is visible and well-utilized

Because TCA works with a national network of cancer centers, we’re also able to “matchmake” by connecting newer sites with experienced partner programs that can offer mentorship, share tools, and provide real-world examples of what works and what hasn’t historically.

These ongoing relationships keep TCA connected to the day-to-day realities of hospital teams, the successes, the barriers, and the evolving needs within an ever-changing healthcare landscape. It ensures that sites are not building from scratch, and that young people facing cancer are supported by programs rooted in shared AYA expertise, collaboration, and community.
