Teen Cancer America to announce its latest ambassador, Cody Simpson

7/8/13, Raleigh, NC – Teen Cancer America is pleased to announce its latest ambassador: musician, Cody Simpson.

Simpson, 18, who visited the UCLA unit in April of this year, said: “I toured the first ward in Santa Monica and was deeply inspired and touched by the stories of all the teens who were receiving treatment.”

Simpson will be joining the likes of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend to help promote cancer awareness, education, and fundraising. His representation of Teen Cancer America will support those who are raising funds for special cancer units for teens and young adults ages 13-24. Simpson, who is urging fans to donate one dollar with each ticket purchased for his Paradise tour in support of Teen Cancer America, said: “We’ve learned that cancer doesn’t discriminate and it can affect people of all ages, so I wanted to do my best to show my support to fellow teens in their battle.”

Roger Daltrey, the driving force in creating Teen Cancer America and longstanding patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK, said: “I am thrilled that Cody has decided to join us at Teen Cancer America. We know that young people with cancer are traditionally treated alongside children or elderly patients, meaning young people can feel extremely isolated during treatment and we have seen the significant difference it can make to a patient’s experience when they are treated alongside others their own age. Not only is Cody an extremely talented and exciting young musician, but he can also relate most effectively to those who Teen Cancer America is aiming to help and I am therefore looking forward to his continued relationship with the organisation.”

Funding for Teen Cancer America assists hospitals in the development of cancer units designed to give patients positive physical and emotional outlooks. In addition to providing state-of-the-art facilities, Teen Cancer America strives to promote an environment where patients can make connections in order to ease the transition from teenager to adult.

Teen Cancer America’s mission is to improve the quality of life for patients by building these facilities, developing support programs, and raising awareness during treatment and beyond. Teen Cancer America aims to ignite a movement that generates action around helping teens and young adults with cancer.
