R&B Neosoul, Pop. Artists including Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Laya, Durand Bernarr.

What was your relationship with music like before your cancer diagnosis?

I grew up listening to all types of music across decades thanks to my parents, older sister, and VH1, MTV, and BET. When I wasn’t listening, I performed gospel music in the church choir.

Can you share a little bit about your cancer story?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 24 back in 2016. I had “the works” for treatment, and I’ll be done with meds next year.

Did your experience with cancer change your relationship with music in any way?

Music helped me cope. Two of my favorite songs are What’s Up by 4 Non Blondes and Hand in My Pocket by Alanis Morrisette. I grew up listening to these songs and they gave me comfort and drive to keep pushing.

What led you to join Play It Back, and what are you hoping to get out of the experience?

Hilary reached out to me after seeing me sing and told me about Play It Back. I immediately thought on how the idea of being a recording artist is so cool! I have always been creative but it feels so good to say that I am an artist and work with this program. I hope to continue building my artistry and showing the world my talents.

R&B, Soul. Music that’s about love and authentically me.

Anything else you want to share?

I was one of the first artists in PiB to work with Kenli remotely on Zoom! I lived in LA but the pandemic was happening so I didn’t get to the studio for quite some time.
