What kind of music do you love, and who are some of your favorite artists or bands?
Growing up Rap music has always held a place close to my heart, as I got older I expanded my taste in music and I found a love for rock music and country music as well.
What was your relationship with music like before your cancer diagnosis?
Before my diagnosis I was writing, recording and even had a few performances on under my belt. Now I plan to put a lot more of those performances under my belt.
Can you share a little bit about your cancer story?
I was 24 years old when I found out I was diagnosed with hodgekins lymphoma and during that first year I fell out of love with not just my love for music but many things I enjoyed doing but after that first year I found the play it back program and through these amazing people I’ve met it didn’t just rekindle the old fire it set ablaze a new burning hot fire that will never be extinguished! Now that I’m in remission I know that better days are ahead and I thank the good Lord above for all of that.
Did your experience with cancer change your relationship with music in any way?
My experience with cancer taught me to enjoy the little things and to fall in love with the process of creating my art and helped bring a deeper understanding of what it means to be an artist.
What led you to join Play It Back, and what are you hoping to get out of the experience?
When I joined play it back I was in a low point in my life. I had given up on my musical aspirations and didn’t feel any drive to get back into it. I was first introduced to the play it back program by an AYA advocate at the cancer hospital where I was getting treatment. I look to grow as an artist, create masterpieces and make likeminded friends while having fun every step of the way.
If you had to describe the kind of music you make or want to make, how would you describe it?
While I mainly make rap music, I want to branch out into rock music a little more as I mature as an artist.
