AYA Program Development (APD) Grant

AYA Program Development (APD) Grant

Building an AYA program from the ground up or ready to take yours to the next level?

TCA’s AYA Program Development (APD) Grant supports cancer centers that want to develop a new AYA program or expand an existing one. Because people make programs possible, this grant most often seed-funds AYA-specific positions such as program managers, coordinators, patient navigators, or social workers with awards typically reaching $250,000.

Before applying, institutions are required to work with TCA’s program development consultants through our 13-Part AYA Program Development Strategy, which creates a site-specific program built on your strengths, patient population, priorities, and available resources supporting implementable and sustainable AYA-focused care.

Community AYA Project (CAP) Grant: project grants up to $25K

Community AYA Project (CAP) Grant

Got a bold idea to strengthen AYA cancer care in your community-based cancer care setting?

The CAP Grant turns local vision into action. Awards of $5,000–$25,000 support projects that address a clearly defined need, improve care delivery, and demonstrate sustainable impact beyond the grant period. These projects, which are completed within a focused 12-month window, must be led or co-led by community oncology staff and support care delivered outside of a high volume academic cancer center.

CAP Grants are designed to be flexible, community-driven, and practical for busy oncology practices. We offer guidance on proposals and budgets and are available for consultative support throughout the implementation period.

More Than Dollars

What sets TCA apart is our commitment to supporting grantee organizations not only with funding, but also with a variety of opportunities to help them become as effective as possible in achieving their missions and advancing the collective goal. Partnership is extended in some of the following areas:

Strengthen education

We are invested in the continued education of physicians and allied health professionals working towards better treatment and targeted care including our Monthly Drip, a recurring educational series delivering short, focused sessions on AYA clinical care /program topics and through our collaborative network of AYA professionals.

Cultivate collaboration

We support individuals interested in AYA-specific cancer care to continue learning, growing, and proving the value of their roles through our AYA Program Advisory Group (PAG), which brings together allied healthcare professionals to share best practices and troubleshoot real-world implementation challenges.

TCA builds momentum by bringing healthcare professionals and grantees together to share knowledge, learn from one another, and accelerate improvements in care delivery. Through our learning and collaboration forums, grantees share what they learn as they develop programs and improve care. TCA connects those experiences across its network, helping successful approaches spread beyond a single institution.

Testimonials

TCA is not just providing an outline, but a true roadmap and the best I’ve ever received.

— Dr. Marcio Malogolowkin, UC Davis Health

TCA funding for a program manager along with the efforts of the AYA team and hospital leadership has allowed us to provide quality, patient-centered care to AYAs at MD Anderson. We do that by addressing unmet needs of our AYA patients on topics relevant to them such as coping/mental health, exercise, financial strain, genetic counseling, healthy behaviors, knowledge of AYA resources, late effects, nutrition, peer support, quality of life, relationships/sex/intimacy, and many others.

— MD Anderson

Thanks to this wonderful partnership, we have been able to shine a spotlight even brighter than before on the program from various departments throughout the Health System and stakeholders in the community. And with Teen Cancer America’s support, we are able to better leverage funding from other donors and supporters locally and nationally.

— University Health System – San Antonio

This gift will ultimately help us expand our existing efforts and provide us with resources to standardize the way we provide optimal cancer care to a vulnerable population across the pediatric and adult medical centers and in accordance with clinical practice guidelines. This will enable us to better contribute to the scientific base as well.

— Stacy Sanford, PhD, CBSM, Northwestern Memorial Hospital
